Bitcoin as a College Programme
My time as a guest lecturer at the University of Greenwich in London for four weeks
Mass adoption can only happen when the masses are educated. This is why I am passionate about educating founders, builders, and everyday people about Bitcoin. Whether I am speaking to people at hackathons, talking to my Lyft driver or its through my best selling book, “The Secrets of Satoshi - Understanding Bitcoin”, I love talking about Bitcoin, L2s, and the amazing possibilities. Opportunity met my passion and preparation. From October 16th to November 6th, I was granted the opportunity to lead students within the master’s Business Analytics programme at the University of Greenwich in London in a four week module that highlighted building on Bitcoin, Bitcoin L2s such as Stacks, how to leverage AI with Bitcoin, as well as building with NoCode. This opportunity was powered through STX LON and the Stacks Foundation.
Special shout out to Adam Haun and to Resh Singh for working to make this happen.
This is the first time the University of Greenwich has ever did a long collaboration within a module, so it was truly an honor to work alongside Dr. Srinidhi Vasudevan and the rest of the University of Greenwich faculty. This was more than a sit and listen type of lecture series. In collaboration with Dr. Srinidhi Vasudevan, labs were cultivated that walked the students through setting up various environments for building Bitcoin contracts; a local environment through VSCode, a browser environment through Hiro Platform, and a NoCode environment through NoCodeClarity. From deploying Clarity smart contracts on testnet to debugging with Clarinet in a local IDE, the four week series was a crash course in how to get started with building on Bitcoin. Along with action, we explored theory as well as many were given Web3 history such as the infamous Ethereum DAO hack, the origin of smart contracts, the reason why Bitcoin is more than a peer-to-peer network, and why Bitcoin L2s are important for the sake of scalability; a bleeding edge opportunity.
100+ students signed up for the module and at the end of my lectures, many students had amazing questions during our Q&A time. While my time in this iteration is completed with the University of Greenwich, the students have been extended a personal invite to NoCodeHacking, the world’s first Bitcoin hackathon with NoCode, which is virtual and global. Stacks has been announced as one of our sponsors and up to $5K in STX is up for grabs for the best NoCodeDev who is building on Bitcoin!
The future is bright, because the future is Bitcoin + Bitcoin L2s. Mass adoption is now.
